How I came up with the Louvre Gun (and why it rocks)

Not long after I moved into a place on the Northern Beaches in Sydney, Australia, I noticed something that would end up changing the course of my work. The house had louvre windows. Beautiful, yes — but also a total pain (literally) to clean properly.

One day I gave them a thorough clean, feeling pretty chuffed with the job. But the next morning, in a different light, I saw all the smudges I’d missed. I’d been a professional window cleaner for over 20 years, and these louvres had made me look like an amateur!

That got me thinking.

Cleaning louvres isn’t just fiddly — it’s time-consuming, and even when you’re careful, the results are inconsistent. Traditional mop and squeegee leaves a lot of dirty water that needs wiping. Even clean microfiber cloths struggle to clean it with no smears.

The Idea: Pure Water + Precision Control

What if I could use pure water? After all, the beauty of louvres is that any drips just fall outside. No touching up with microfibres that leave dust behind. Just clean water and done.

But pure water systems are great for large glass panes (and outdoors), but louvres need precision. You need to control the flow perfectly — not too much, not too little — and it needs to feel natural in the hand.

So I started experimenting with spray guns and triggers and nozzles. Dozens of them.

I tested all sorts of configurations until I found the perfect controller. Smooth trigger action, great water control and hard wearing— it was exactly what I wanted.

The Hose Problem

Then came the next roadblock.

Most window cleaners (myself included) use 8mm hose as standard. But the perfect gun I’d found didn’t fit that. Adapters were way too clunky. And they have to be 100% water tight!

So I had to go custom.

Of course, no supplier wants to do a custom part in small batches. I barganed them down to a minimum order of 1000 units. Big commitment, but I knew I was onto something — not just for me, but for every cleaner who’d ever wrestled with louvres.

The Tip of the Problem

Then there was the business end of the product: the nozzle tip.

I needed a tip that was:

  • Smooth enough to glide well and not to scratch

  • Strong enough to last

  • Tight enough to allow good control and the water to sheet off

After testing a bunch of plastics and even a few other materials,. I finally landed on a custom-made tip that checked every box. It clicks in beautifully and delivers a gentle, effective stream right where you need it.

And That’s How the Louvre Gun Was Born

The result? A purpose-built, comfortable, precise spray tool that makes cleaning louvres actually enjoyable. (And fast.) The perfect cleaning louvre windows tool.

It’s now my go-to tool for any louvre job, and it’s already helping other pros get better results in less time — with way less frustration.

Next step? I needed something just as good for washing the louvres. But that’s a story for another post…
