Until now there's been no proper way to get 0000 steel wool working on a pole. The improvised options hold the wool on hard plastic spikes, and hard plastic has no place that close to glass.

When the glass is out of reach by hand, a tapered socket fits every window cleaning pole tip, without adaptors or fiddling. Simply jam your pole in and it's ready to clean up high.
 
A built-in elastic (clasp-mounted, so it never comes off the block) hooks over two corners of the wool through guide slits in the foam. The wool sits flat, stays put, and nothing hard or sharp goes anywhere near the glass. Being foam, the block itself wont mark glass.
 
It changes what's possible as a window cleaner. That dirty skylight or glass roof above the stairwell used to be mop, squeegee, and a rag on a pole tip for touch-ups, with the hard marks staying put. Now the hard marks come off. And when you're done, drape a rag over the block for a wide, flat and spongy touch-up surface that beats a bare pole tip every time.
 
Clean high glass from the ground. Leave the ladder on the van.
Bright yellow, so you can always find it. After a few jobs, you'll be keeping it closer than your wedding ring.
 
A note on steel wool and glass: used properly, 0000 wool removes spots and polishes glass beautifully, but you need to know your glass first.
